Ergonomic Keyboard

I have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and thought that maybe an ergonomic keyboard would help me out. How long did it take someone to get used to it and would you say that your typing speed remained the same or decreased?

I use an ergonomic keyboard too. When I go to my parents' house and use their computer it's hard for me to adjust to the "normal" keyboard again. My sister tried out an ergo keyboard and she hated it. She switched back after a week.
