The best way to deal with office politics if you don't like playing the game is to avoid them completely.

Become the hermit of the office. Do your job as best you can, make yourself invaluable to your boss.

Stay away from office gossip and office gossips. The more you involve yourself with them the more chance you are taking of making someone upset and then they will start attacking you behind your back and you become the brunt of the politics.

Pretend that your boss is just keeping you too busy to look up from your desk. The others will believe you if you keep yourself busy at work and not around the water cooler or the coffee machine.

Make sure you start on time and don't leave early often. That way no one can complain about what you do during office hours and you will always be considered to be prompt.

Make sure that you meet all deadlines or talk to your boss about the problem of doing so.

I do like these tips. I usually did what I could to avoid office gossip. I think it is important to be friendly in the workplace but it is still not the place to air your dirty laundry. Personal drama needs to stay out of the workplace if possible.
