What are the cheapest and most worthwhile ways to promote a local business. Share some of your ideas of what works the best for you.I like just printing off flyers and posting them on bulletin boards at businesses or college campuses (of course with permission). Plus apartments usually have bulletin boards where you can post flyers. It has really helped my small cleaning company take off.

I contacted a cleaning lady through her flyer which she posted on our community mailbox. In fact, that's how I got the number of the landscaping company who does our yard. Try that and see how it works out for you.

Another option, maybe a bit more pricey but you could try adveritisng through the newspaper. Always worth a shot. Also creating a free website on the internet is a great way to advertise!

Definitely creating a website on the internet is the cheapest form of advertising. You can get a free website and then go to other websites that are similar or complimentary to what your business is and work out a deal with them to trade weblinks so that you can put yours on theirs and vise versa.Other than that, flyers in apartment buildings or even a business card in the mail boxes in apartment buildings. The slots are usually small enough to slide a business card in. My mailbox is right in my apartment door and I had someone put their business card in for fixing pc's. When my pc went down I thought hmmm I have that business card and I looked for it and found it and called and he has been my techie ever since. The thing about flyers is that they are easy to throw out cause you get so many but a business card is not so easy to throw out and small enough to put in a little box of cards and that's why I think they work better.

I think putting an ad in your "local" newspaper, meaning local in your own town - here we have many suburbs and a section of the paper basically caters to each individual town so I would try that first, if you know what I mean. Then, if you find yourself successful with that, branch out into the main newspaper "service" ads.

Depends a lot on where you live and what you are trying to go into business with.If you live in a large city or a rural area you have to treat each one differently because of the number of people you can contact at one time. If you are selling something that can be shipped anywhere then you do a website and tie it into google. If you are starting a cleaning business then you need to find a couple of customers and have them spread the word by word of mouth.
