How old were you when you started your first small business? General talk about small businesses

melena from new orleans -

How old were you when you started your first small business? It does not matter if it was successful or not. I just want to hear stories. Even children try to start up little businesses as well. I remember when I was a child, i used to draw and write about 4 pages long newspapers and sell them to my family members and friends for 10 cents each! LOL.

Well if you count the summer lemonade stands then very very young. We also helped the older women on our street plant flowers and we watered their lawns as well. But, if you don't count that then I was in my 20's.

Oh i forgot all about the lemonade stands. I definitely did that too!

I sold lemonade when I was little. I think we sold all sorts of drinks on the corner. We sold avocados too. The avocados did very well. The city I grew up in had an employment agency for children, so kids got help. I had all sorts of summer and after-school jobs. I know that's not my own business, but I really was working for myself by myself; I just had help finding the client.

Oooh avocados! I looove avocados but refused to even try them as a child :) I never heard of children selling them though but makes sense that they would do well as avocados can be pretty expensive.

Comment #7 Cinnamon from The Kitchen -

My first small business has been my cleaning business which I started when I was about 20 years old. I can't complain. It is still doing very well and turning a large profit.

I started my first little "venture" when I was 17. I did computer tech work for a few local businesses. I even created a few databases. I still do some tech services but not as much as I used to.
